We’re Reopening, June 2nd!

We’re Reopening, June 2nd!

Hello all,

As per Governor Inslee’s Stage 2 order yesterday (May 19) we will reopen on June 2nd with strict guidelines in place. Details below.

We will continue to provide Zoom classes, so you are not required to come to the school if you are not comfortable.

  • First and foremost, if you are at high risk please do not come in.
  • If you are feeling sick, especially if you are showing COVID symptoms stay at home.
  • When you arrive at the school you are required to wash or sanitize your hands. Sanitizer will be provided at the front desk.
  • You MUST bring your own weapons. School weapons will be off-limits. If you do not have a weapon they can be purchased at the school.
  • We must maintain social distancing; therefore, we will not be doing sparring, chin na, or sticky hands. At least for the next few weeks or a month.
  • Further to social distancing, only a few students at a time are allowed in the back to get their belongings from the shelves. And please no lingering to chat. You can talk outside.
  • On our side, we are committed to keeping the school sanitized and clean.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,

Master Sarah

How One Seattle Business Woman is Staying Relevant During the Covid-19 Pandemic

How One Seattle Business Woman is Staying Relevant During the Covid-19 Pandemic

When Washington state issued the stay at home order in March Kung Fu school owner Sarah Yoffe took action. With the help of Evelyn Dickinson of Logical Alternative she set up an iPad tablet and a laptop, signed up for a Zoom professional account, and started streaming her classes for her students.

“It’s been more successful than I hoped,” Sarah said, “The pandemic has spurred me on to update our online presence. We also set up online payments through the website.” Recordings of the classes are also available to the students for a week.

“This has been a great opportunity,” she said, “and we will continue with streaming the classes even after the restrictions are lifted.”

The Shaolin Center of Seattle is one of the longest-running women-owned martial arts schools that embraces all genders in Seattle. It provides kung fu and tai chi training for students ages 8 to 80. It has operated in Seattle and Shoreline for fifteen years.

“We’ve faced rough times before and we’ll get through this one, too,” Sarah said.

New students are still welcome. Go to https://shaolinseattle.com/new-students/ and start today.

Give the Gift of Health, Fitness, & Confidence!

The Gift Giving Search

It’s that time of the year, trying to come up with unique gift ideas for that special person in your life. It can be a struggle. What about a gift that can improve health, give a fun fitness workout, and even instill or increase personal confidence?

Then the gift of kung fu and tai chi would be ideal.

Kung Fu – The Ultimate Gift of Health, Fitness, and Confidence

Kung fu has been taught for fifteen hundred years for a reason. It works. Not only is it the root of most martial arts it gives you a workout like no other. Some health benefits you can expect are:

  • Improved cardiovascular system
  • Stress reduction
  • Greater bone density

And when it comes to fitness you will be:

  • Stronger
  • More flexible
  • Have better balance

And finally learning how to protect yourself gives you a greater sense of confidence, not just in a potential physical confrontation but in all areas of your life. You will be comfortable knowing that you can handle any situation.

Tai Chi – The Gift of Gentle Strength

Tai chi is integral to our kung fu training but it also taught separately if you don’t wish to take our kung fu training. Tai chi is ideal for all ages and all levels of mobility. We have had students as young as eleven and as old as eighty using a walker. Despite being low impact tai chi benefits include:

  • Stronger core
  • Flexibility
  • Lower blood pressure

Since tai chi puts little pressure on the joints it is perfect for people with arthritis, with back issues, or pregnancy. We have seen people who had trouble walking without a cane improve to the point where they could put the cane away. The meditative nature of tai chi gives you the gift of lower stress.

The Kung Fu Gift For Kids

We have an entire program devoted to training your children in the art of kung fu. Using a mixture of traditional training and games designed to put that training in practice we teach the kids how to defend themselves. Along with the same benefits for adults listed above our younger students also receive:

  • Greater focus
  • Personal discipline
  • Respect for others

What kid wouldn’t love getting the gift of kung fu?
